We talked about how to use Constant Contact to get the word out about Colonial Beach and all its great businesses. The group of business owners and professionals that gathered for the training session included a CPA, bankers from NSWC Federal Credit Union, a marriage officiant, a farmer, and even a dog trainer and animal behaviorist. The “Power of the Inbox” class met on a Wednesday morning in the middle of July and enjoyed breakfast thanks to a local restaurant, High Tides on the Potomac. There are several rejuvenation projects going on right now in Colonial Beach that will benefit everyone in the town – all thanks to that access to capital and the volunteers who are avid about their community's presence. With that money, they are preserving small business ownership in their area and giving towns like Colonial Beach the ability to engage in major revitalization endeavors.

Thankfully, the Northern Neck Planning District Commission has been helping out the “little guys” here by giving them access to that ever-so-important capital that is often difficult for small business owners to find. With other beaches (like Ocean City and Virginia Beach) throwing around big marketing budgets, the business owners here have realized that if they are going to level the playing field, they need to market like the big guys. They thrive on people visiting frequently from NOVA and Maryland for some rest and relaxation. I share with clients that the stronger the marketing strategy, the more dynamic Constant Contact can be.Ĭolonial Beach is a town that depends on tourism.

Constant Contact is such a powerful marketing tool, but even the best tools need guidance. For this event, I decided to focus on Digital Marketing Strategies. I was invited to visit by the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce and Colonial Beach Women in Business to teach one of my “Power of the Inbox” workshops Constant Contact. It’s quite the sight, I assure you! I didn’t get nearly enough cart time during this visit – something I plan to rectify on my next one. Not only does everyone have one, but most of them are decorated. This is a dispatch from a forgotten America-a work of searing moral clarity from one of the finest writers of her generation, a courageous and necessary book.Colonial Beach is a golf cart community. Soaring and ambitious, it zooms from drill rig to shareholders' meeting to the Three Mile Island nuclear reactor to the ruined landscape of the "strippins," haunting reminders of Pennsylvania's past energy booms. Told through a cast of characters whose lives are increasingly bound by the opposing interests that underpin the national debate, Heat and Light depicts a community blessed and cursed by its natural resources. Meanwhile his neighbors, organic dairy farmers Mack and Rena, hold out against the drilling-until a passionate environmental activist disrupts their lives.

He doesn't count on the truck traffic and nonstop noise, his brother's skepticism or the paranoia of his wife, Shelby, who insists the water smells strange and is poisoning their frail daughter. To drill or not to drill? Prison guard Rich Devlin leases his mineral rights to finance his dream of farming. Now Bakerton has been granted a surprise third act: it sits squarely atop the Marcellus Shale, a massive deposit of natural gas. Then the mines closed, and the town wore away like a bar of soap. Acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Haigh returns to the Pennsylvania town at the center of her iconic novel Baker Towers in this ambitious, achingly human story of modern America and the conflicting forces at its heart-a bold, moving drama of hope and desperation, greed and power, big business and small-town families.įorty years ago, Bakerton coal fueled the country.
